Senseless violence

It seems as if I am always hearing of atrocious crimes being committed by young people these days. Just recently I read an article where a young man had two of his friends go murder his mother so he could take the $90,000 in her bank account, as well as take advantage of her life insurance policy, of which he is the beneficiary. To me, this is astounding. To take a LIFE for filthy money? Or ANY reason for that matter. I cannot even imagine.

Born and raised in a time when there’s very little morals left in our society, many people haven’t been taught basic respect for their fellow man or themselves, or even how to be responsible and work for a living; thus, many of them think the world and their parents owe them. But they haven’t been educated properly in the first place, or they would never see violence as a way to solve their problems. This is people’s lives we’re talking about. To want something so bad to where you see it as okay to take out whoever is in your way – this is clearly a lack of respect for life. You cannot get a life back. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Murder cannot be undone.

All people have great value, and, given the opportunity, we are all capable of helping and serving others in one way or another. This woman owned a successful hair salon. She was said to be the type of mother who would do anything for her son. But now she’s gone. Her life has been stolen from her, and her son and his two accomplices lives are ruined because of their choices. It’s a no-win situation. All because of a lack of respect; because of greed; because of allowing money to become more important in one’s mind than a fellow human’s life. And it’s all because of a lack of education, not being taught how to successfully co-exist with one another in peace, and obtain what we desire lawfully.

Sometimes I think we hear of crimes being committed, lives being taken, people suffering and dying, and we just let it go in one ear and out the other. But we cannot afford to ignore these things any longer. Violent crimes are at an all-time high. In the 21st century. In our “civilized” world. Locking the perpetrators up in prison is not the answer. While in prison, they learn how to become better criminals. Recividism (getting out of prison only to commit more crimes and go right back) is sadly quite common in this day and age. We have to put an end to this vicious cycle. Incarceration is not the answer. What they need is to be taught, to be rehabilitated so they will become a benefit to society. With the Peaceful Solution character Education Program, this can become a reality, and has already for many people. It’s never too late to make positive changes in our lives for the better, no matter what we have done in the past. It’s time to start educating  ourselves and our children in the ways of peace.  For more information visit http://www.peacefulsolution.org and become a part of positive change today.

Sandy Hook: One Year Later

Today is the 1 year anniversary of the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. If you remember, it was one of the deadliest school shootings in the history of America, second only to Virginia Tech. Most of the innocent people who died that day were little kids, babies whose lives had just begun. Our nation mourned and our President Barack Obama shed tears as he addressed Newtown and the nation in the wake of this tragedy.

“We can’t tolerate this anymore. These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change. We will be told that the causes of such violence are complex, and that is true. No single law — no set of laws can eliminate evil from the world, or prevent every senseless act of violence in our society.
But that can’t be an excuse for inaction. Surely, we can do better than this. If there is even one step we can take to save another child, or another parent, or another town, from the grief that has visited Tucson, and Aurora, and Oak Creek, and Newtown, and communities from Columbine to Blacksburg before that — then surely we have an obligation to try.”
—President Barack Obama

Fast forward to a year later. Are our schools any safer now than they were a year ago? Just yesterday, I heard of yet another school shooting, this time in Centennial, Colorado. What is wrong with these kids that they would commit such a crime? Why are school shootings becoming commonplace nowadays? Why are our efforts as a nation not working?

Many times when there is a mass shooting, people tend to think that the answer lies in passing more laws concerning guns. That if ‘bad’ people didn’t have access to guns, there wouldn’t be these mass killings. But I have to ask, is it the gun that chose to go and kill innocent people on it’s own? Or is the it the person who chose to use that gun to bring harm to another human being?

The truth is, gun control is not the answer. Self-control is the answer. Self-control enables us to actually pause and consider before we make that wrong choice. To think, “Will this choice I am about to make bring harm to myself, others, anyone’s possessions, or the environment? What will be the end result of me making this choice? Is there a better choice I could make instead?” And then to proceed with the right choice – one that won’t cause harm.

These concepts are only found in the Peaceful Solution Character Education Program. It actually changes the heart and mind of a person, by teaching them how to accentuate their positive character traits and eliminate the negative ones. This is how to stop school shootings before they start – to educate our kids in the right way to solve problems and even how to prevent these problems from coming about in the first place. This is the answer our nation is groping for.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog, Everything And The Kitchen Sink!

It is my hope that reading this blog will brighten your day and encourage you in a positive direction. I intend to cover a variety of topics including cooking, crafts, photography, health, and especially character education. There is such an obvious lack of persons with positive character in our world today, it’s very sad what our world is becoming. But it doesn’t have to be this way. I promote the Peaceful Solution Character Education program because it produces results. Its the only program out there that actually changes a person’s heart and mind. So I will be doing a weekly feature on that.

Also, very soon I intend to start offering natural soaps and personal care products on my blog…so stay tuned, because all great things are worth waiting for right! But I’m working on it and hopefully it will be up very soon.

Feedback is welcome, so if you have any suggestions on how the site can be improved, by all means please drop me a note! Thank you so much for stopping by.
